How it Began:
It all started over steak. We had talked about it before – but that was when the rubber really began to hit the road. Beckner grabbed a napkin and I started making a list of movies and ideas. A few days later, we shot some test footage of ourselves doing reviews of films that had better trailers than the movie itself actually was. We did 90 minutes and shared it with a couple of friends. It was then that we realized – this could be something.
Now, looking back on those formative, first few weeks – it is interesting to see what this has become. What started out as two guys talking about their love of movies was spawned by the comment ‘we should have a camera rolling…’ and the rest just unfolded from there.
About us:
Ryan Beckner is a typical millennial. Well, not really. But it never gets tiresome to troll him about being one. Ryan’s interest in films was first cultivated in the horror genre during his early childhood. Contrary to established psychological opinion – this was not detrimental to his developmental psychology – if you don’t count those few months in that center that no one talks about. He also has a pretty thorough working knowledge of the Martial Arts genre. And trolling – and how to troll and has been engaging films on a critical level for the last 8 years. He collects tattoos and has a decent collection of b-rated horror films. He is originally from the great of Ca-if-ornia, and was lured here by prospects of an education and job security. He feels that his soul is slowly being drained out of him by being in the South – though when he gets excited, you can definitely tell the beginnings of a good southern drawl.
Matthew Lipscomb is a typical gen-x’er. No that is not entirely true either. The son of an accomplished artist and an old-school nurse – he grew up around both Art & Science and early in life discovered that cinema played a fascinating role in their mutual extrapolation. A perennial student – he enjoys both philosophy and theology and the role of culture between them. Considered to be a liberal by many fellow evangelicals (he is a bit of a dark beer conisour) – he is alternatively thought of as a stodgy capitalist-loving, republican/conservative by many of his liberals friends. He remains fairly certain that this means he is getting at least some of the big questions right. Matthew is not without a few potential quirks; he is probably an ‘aspie’ (you can judge for yourself) and he can’t stay out of used bookstores. He does not consider either of these to be overly problematic.
